BIO HIGHLITES James L. McVey, Jr. born Jan 23, 1942 in Wynnewood,Pa.; Graduate of the Episcopal Academy 1960; Graduate of Denison University 1964; Air Force Capt., Intelligence Officer 1964-1969; Contract Salesman for Interior Design Services to the Hotel Industry 1969-1977; Real Estate Broker since 1980; Past President Vail Board of Realtors 2003-2004; VBR Realtor of the Year 2006; one of SSFRE Top 15 Brokers in 2009.

BROKERAGE EXPERIENCE Jim has been a full time resident of The Vail Valley since 1978 and a real estate Broker since 1980. During his 30+ year career, Jim has either been involved in the real estate profession as a Top Producing Broker, Managing Broker, Co-Owner or Sole Owner of five real estate firms including: Ski and Shore Real Estate, Vacation Properties, McInerney-McVey Realtors, McVey and Company Realtors and now Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate. McVey and Company Realtors was acquired by SSFRE in August of 2004. Jim has enjoyed conducting his career from offices located in Vail Village, Avon and Edwards. He recently was honored to be chosen to join the dynamic Park Hyatt office in Beaver Creek as a full time listing and selling broker.

LISTING/SELLING HISTORY Jim’s focus during The Vail Valley’s construction boom was listing and selling new developer product including S/F and Duplex homes, as well as, large mixed –use projects such as Riverwalk at Edwards. The developers, Eagle II, created one of the most successful and popular retail, restaurant, office and residential communities in the Vail Valley. It was Jim’s honor and privilege to market such an appealing Victorian Village over a 6 year period. The last building, The Ruby Building, one of 14 buildings in this project was completed in spring of 2007.

DISCERNING TASTE Jim’s former experience as a Commercial Contract Salesman for a major Design Firm in Philadelphia, where he grew up on The Main Line, developed his interest in and talent for interior design, architecture and construction. His good taste and discerning eye for excellent floor plans, enduring architecture, inviting interiors and superior locations and settings has served his clients well.

DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE Jim put those talents to the test by creating and developing a 5 unit townhome project on the river in Eagle-Vail called River Quest. These homes were well received and sold quickly at ever increasing prices: $875,000 -$1,025,000. He also has co-developed several duplex homes in Wildridge and Singletree.

GOLDEN RULES OF PRACTICE Jim's approach to Real Estate Brokerage is that the profession not only demands in depth knowledge of the local market and expertise in the practice of real estate, but it also requires effectively translating the needs, taste, lifestyle, budget and concerns of the client into a purchase that is fulfilling and gratifying. He feels it important to establish trust and display integrity and cultivate friendships with clients, fellow brokers, and the residents of the community in which you serve. Success in any field, especially real estate, requires hard work, dedication, expertise,good listening and communication skills, empathy,and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of customers,clients and the community at large.

RECOGNITION BY PEERS Jim’s commitment to the development of those skills and concerns earned him the election as President of the Vail Board of Realtors during the years of 2002/2003. The Colorado Association of Realtors, with 27,000 members awarded him the Mary Ellen Marx Trophy in 2004 for the following: “Presented annually to a Realtor participant who demonstrates Mary Ellen’s spirit of commitment cooperation, dedication, fun and volunteerism to the REALTOR community”. Jim was also honored as Vail Board of Realtors “2006 Realtor of the Year” and was one of SSFRE Top 15 Producers for 2009. Jim currently serves as lay reader in his Episcopal Church and is on the Board of the Eagle Valley Religious Foundation.

FAMILY AND INTERESTS Jim and his wife Cheryl, who co-founded a successful floral business in Edwards called Petals of Provence, enjoy skiing, golf, travel, entertaining and being caring aunts,uncles’and grandparents to my duaghter Leslie and husband Brent's three boys: Grayson, Kieran and MacEwan.
